Principal's Message

Dear Hastings Community,

Another week in the books! (although it was short one). Your children have done an incredible job acclimating to the building and becoming a Hastings Hero. The wonderful Hastings staff has also done their best to get their classroom communities established and welcoming all their students into their space.

This past Saturday we commemorated the events that happened 20 years ago on 9/11. None of our Hastings students were born 20 years ago, but many of our parents and staff remember that day quite well.

It was a very scary and sad time for all of us. Instead of focusing on this tragic event, we should consider the lessons we learned from 9/11.

Right after the events of 9/11, so many people around the world showed their kindness and love to people directly affected by these tragic events.  People put aside their differences and worked together to help one another. It did not matter the color of your skin, your religious background or how much money you had, people worked together to help each other through that tragedy.

Many of these lessons 20 years later can be applied now. We are currently experiencing a divide within our nation. Despite our differences, we must come together with kindness and love to build a community where all children feel a part of it. Kindness and love are very important to our Hastings community. As humans, we must have the courage to do the right thing to protect and defend each other. Putting our differences aside and coming together as a welcoming community is truly important for our children. We hope that the Hastings Community is this for all of you, a welcoming community where every student learns and every student belongs.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. O'Hare Gibson -

Mr. Wai -

Health/COVID Reminders
LPS COVID Testing Consent Form

DON’T WAIT. Complete the Covid Testing Consent form now. It will help keep the most number of our students learning in the classroom.

  • Avoid the possibility of your student having to quarantine for up to 7 days each time they are identified as a close contact.
  • The consent is quick and covers all three LPS testing programs for the entire school year.

Together as a community,  we can do our best to keep this pandemic from interrupting time on learning. Again, please complete the Covid Testing Consent here.

Message from the School Nurse

I am really proud of how committed Hastings families and staff were last school year in doing their part to reduce the spread of COVID-19. I know we can do it again this year but we need your help!

Each morning, please review the Family/Student Symptom Checker to see if your child is well enough to go to school. This is imperative to maintain a healthy school for all members of the community. If the answer is yes to any of the symptoms, please follow the directions on the form.

If your child is going to be absent, please remember these two steps:

  • Call the school’s absent hotline at 781-860-5800

  • Complete this form if your child will be absent due to illness or has been ordered to quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19. This form is confidential and used by the nursing office to track illnesses.

Important reminders:

  • Send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to keep in their backpack or locker. The Health Clinic does not keep extra clothing and you will need to come to school with a change of clothes. Your child will miss valuable instruction time waiting in the clinic for clean clothes. There are all types of accidents, from incontinence to puddles and spilled milk so this applies to ALL students. Your child will not have their best day in soiled clothes!

  • The Your Health, Safety, and Well Being page on the LPS website provides resources, protocols, and other information on how to keep you, your family, and our school community safe.

  • If your student needs to take medication at school or requires an inhaler or epinephrine injector to be kept at school, please secure those medication orders now. The forms are linked below. The school is closed to visitors, but you can drop off medication and medication orders at the front office. If you need to speak with me, please just ask and I’ll meet you in the vestibule.
