Thank You Hastings Families

In this final Bulletin of the year I'd like to conclude our thank yous with a shout out to the PTO Executive Committee. The behind the scenes work by this dedicated group of parents ensures the smooth and compliant running of the PTO. This includes maintaining our website and membership tool kit, awarding teacher grants, filling taxes, co-ordinating with Lexington's Town Offices, keeping a workable calendar and of course producing this informative, fun and engaging Weekly Bulletin!

Thank You EC Board! Tharshini Matthew, Gloria Son, Maria Pak, Emma Harding, Ali Lynch, Shannon Murtagh, Shivani Munjal, Jin Chyung, Fumi Ishikawa, Mary Lee, Liz Lin, Mike Finkenzeller, Christine Manavian and Kim Ryan.

Thank You to our wonderful outgoing PTO Co-President Tejpreet Kalra who has worked non stop to help make this school year joyous and productive for all our Hastings Heroes!

Finally, last but not least a huge thank you to Co-Principal Katie O'Hare Gibson for her work navigating all the challenges of this school year. She will be at Fiske next year so it is a happy "see you later" and not a goodbye!

Bike Train

Date: Friday, June 24

Time: Starting at 8am

Can we get 100 riders?! The Hastings Bike Train will run again on the last day of school, June 24. Decorate your bikes (if you'd like) and join us to ride and celebrate the end of the year! Sign up here.

We're encouraging parents to ride with us if possible and we'll be following the same route as last time.

We hope you can join us to continue making biking magic happen! Please email js@jschwarz.com if you have any questions. If you don't live on the route but are interested in a neighborhood bike train next year please reach out so that the Safe Routes to School team can support launching new routes!

Hastings Kindergarten Meetup

LexFUN! Kindergarten Connection

Date: Sunday, August 28

Time: 10-11:30am

Location: Hastings Elementary School Playground, 7 Crosby Road

Calling all families with a rising kindergartner! Attend a playground meetup on Sunday, August 28 from 10-11:30am and play with your future classmates! Color coded name tags will help you find friends in your new class!

Please note; restrooms will not be available and please bring your own water as refreshments will not be provided. Siblings are welcome to attend.

Kindergarten Connection welcomes ALL incoming Kindergarteners. LexFUN! membership is not required to participate.

PTO Meeting Notes - New EC Members

Thank you to all those that turned out for the last PTO meeting of the year. It was bitter sweet as we said some goodbyes but we also welcomed 5 new Executive Committee members. Summer Reading!

We all know how important it is to keep reading all summer long! This slideshow has information about the Summer Challenges, book talks and suggested reading lists from the Cary Library, activities at the Boston Public Library, and more. Enjoy!

Hastings Harvest Run Race Sign up

The Hastings Harvest Run is scheduled for Sunday, October 2 with the run starting at 11am at Hastings Park (New for next year, pre-race check in at Hastings Park - not Lower Hayden Field). Race Participants can run or walk the 5K or 1.5 mile fun run. It is never too early to register for the event.

If you have any questions about either courses, here is the map. The 1.5 option is a fun run and does not qualify for the age group awards, but is still a great option for our runners working their way up to a 5K. All children should be accompanied by a parent, caregiver, or older sibling. There will be no race day changes, so please think about what is best for your child and what their friends are planning on doing!

Volunteers are needed to help too. Please sign up to volunteer.

LPS/School Committee

June 14 School Committee Meeting Summary

The School Committee met on Tuesday, June 14. This is the final meeting of the 2021-2022 school year. The agenda is posted here.

New curriculum was discussed at the meeting including:

1) a new DEI curriculum to begin for all grades in the '22-'23 school year,

2) a new K-5 math curriculum call Illustrative Mathematics to be implemented in Grades 3-5 starting in the '22-'23 school year and K-2 in the '23-'24 school year, and

3) a new K-2 phonics curriculum called Fundations to be implemented for grades K-1 in the '22-23 school year and grade 2 in the '23-24 school year.

The locations of two district-wide special education programs are being changed: part of the Fiske ILP program and the Estabrook TLP program; the Hastings ILP program will not be impacted. The superintendent's evaluation was reviewed and Dr Hackett received exemplary ratings in most categories. The full school committee agenda and packet can be found here.
